1967 Porsche 911S SWT

We are pleased to offer for sale this beautifully restored 1967 Porsche 911S SWT. It was the 65th targa built on January 26, 1967, with the following options per the Kardex; Webasto Heater, Antenna, Loudspeaker, Ski Rack, and Dunlop Tires (165/15). It was finished from the factory in Polo Red with a black leatherette interior and came equipped from the factory with rare 4.5 in. Fuchs. The car is matching numbers and was originally delivered to Rottach-Egern, Germany in 1967.

At the end of the 356 production run, Porsche started drafting designs of what could replace one of their best-selling models, the 356 cabriolets. In 1967, the targa was born. The targa was a result of Porsche playing it safe in the 1960s with US regulations, as they didn’t believe a cabriolet would pass the new safety standards. It was designed with a built-in roll-over hoop and covered with a decorative stainless steel strip. Porsche then affixed a soft window to the rear of the car so it could be unzipped and dropped to make the car semi-convertible. They made just 483 911S SWT in 1967.

This car was purchased in 2010 from then-owner David Merz of Santa Rosa, California. Mr. Merz owned a specialty Porsche shop at the time. The car was rust-free and very original. A full nut and bolt restoration was performed by CarparcUSA bringing the car back to its original factory specifications with only the highest quality craftsmanship and attention to detail.

The car was disassembled and extensively photographed. The car was media blasted and metalwork was performed. The original color, Polo Red was applied using correct Glasurit paint. Würth Wax oil was applied to the hollow sections of the car for added rust protection. The interior was completely reupholstered by a specialized shop in Southern California and installed by CarparcUSA. The engine was dismantled and rebuilt in-house to original Porsche specifications. The original IDS carburetors were also completely rebuilt. Stainless steel heat exchangers were installed along with a new exhaust muffler. The transmission was disassembled and rebuilt in-house to original Porsche specifications. This was a complete rotisserie restoration done by CarparcUSA over the course of a year in 2010.

Once the restoration was complete the car was shipped to the Netherlands where it was enjoyed by the previous owner for over 12 years. He used the car sparingly on classic rallies and local car shows. The car even placed in the best of show coral at the 2011 Techno Classica in Essen, Germany.

We recently had the opportunity to purchase the car back and had it shipped to the United States in early 2022. Upon arrival, it was treated to a light refurbishment; replacing general wear items, a professional paint correction, an extensive detail, and other small additions to bring this stunning car to the next level.

It’s not often such a sought-after car as this comes to market in such stunning restored condition. Skip the wait and don’t miss the opportunity to own one of just 483 911S SWT built in 1967. The car comes with an original owner’s manual, tool kit, jack, and 4.5 in spare as well as a dropbox link to an extensive catalog of photographs during/after the restoration as well as the Kardex.
